Ba Ria-Vung Tau Teachers’ College is directly under Ba Ria - Vung Tau People’s Committee, its functions are to train collegiate students, professional intermediate students for teaching and non-teaching jobs, to foster educational administrators, teachers and educational workers, to cooperate with other universities in training university standards for the fields that meet requirements of the economic and social development of the province and to offer the courses that the learners need.
The school has a long history of building, attempting and growing over various periods and names associated with the establishment, the division of the two provinces (Dong Nai and Ba Ria – VungTau 1991) and the upward growth of the school: originated from Đồng Nai Elementary Teachers’ College (1975) that was taken over from Phước Tuy Elementary Teachers’ College (before 1975), then renamed as Ba Ria – Vung Tau Elementary Teachers’ College (1991), and has become Ba Ria – Vũng Tàu Teachers’ College since 2000.
The management staff and teaching staff by 2010 have more than 60% members with postgraduate degrees. Many lecturers have been trained and retrained abroad.
The organization of the school consists of the School Managing Board with one Rector and Deputy Rectors; 1 Scientific - Training Council and other councils; 6 functional departments and 5 professional faculties. 1 Foreign Languages and Computer Science Centre, 1 Pedagogy Practice School, 1 Communist Party Committee and the other political- social institutions (Trade Unions, Communist Youth Union, Veterans Association, FA Psychological Science - Education, Former Teachers Associations and Study Promotion Association).
The training scale is progressively growing and expanding, the quality of training has been being raised quickly. The first years after the liberation day, the school only trained primary school teachers. Since 1991, the school has added more programs for training preschool teachers. In 2000, the school started collegiate and intermediate level training for secondary school and primary school teachers and preschool teachers. Since 2002, the school has added more non-teaching majors to meet the needs of human resources of the province. Currently the Ministry of Education and Training has permitted the school to train 32 collegiate majors, including 20 majors in pedagogy and 12 non-teaching courses.
The annual training scale is approximately 3,000 students, about whom 2,000 are regular. The annual enrollment is approximately 600-800 students, about whom 500-600 are collegiate. Additionally, the school holds annual refresher courses for thousands of teachers, gives tests of foreign language and informatics and issues about 1,000 certificates to successfully passed examinees.
The facilities: The school is increasingly upgrading and improving with the system of classrooms, libraries, modern and synchronic equipment, especially with wireless system that allows students to access the internet 24/24 everywhere in the school and campuses, and two dormitories for 800 students.
Outstanding achivements: Since the first days, the school has trained nearly 20,000 teachers, standardized and improved training standards for more than 10,000 teachers at every grade. The school was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal in 1996, the Second Class Labor Medal in 2010; the credit of the State in 2004, State's Emulation Flag in 2008; the Provincial Emulation Flag in the period 2005-2010; and the title of strong and clean party committee. Many teams and individuals were awarded certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, Education Ministry, other Ministries, Provincial People’s Committee, and other agencies of the state and the local authorities.
Orientation of the school development: The school is developing into a multidisciplinary college, continuing to implement training effectively, retraining teachers, educational administrators at all educational levels and other sectors of the province and training collegiate majors in order to provide human resources to local area. Besides, the school is cooperating with prestigious universities to train human resources with university standards to meet the requirements of the economic and social development of the province and the needs of learners; researching and applying education science, transferring education technology with quality of education which is increasing rapidly, step by step, constructing the sustainable and strong development in every aspects, becoming one of the cultural, scientific and technological centers of the province, preparing conditions a public university in the province in the future.
